One of the first places we visited on our return trip to Togo was the Pastor’s Training School in the middle part of Togo. This used to be an agriculture training center. When the missionaries left that area of Togo, with the help of some volunteer professors and the aid of the Togo Baptist Convention, they started a pastors’ school in which there are presently 70 students trying to graduate. The school is surviving hand to mouth. Its library is very small, and there is need for help with preparing students for the ministry. The men who train at this school are frequently just leaders of churches which have suddenly came into being where all the members, including the pastor, are new Christians. This pastors’ school is there to help prepare these men for the work ahead of them. When the missionaries left, we lost nearly 40 churches because there was not enough trained pastoral leadership. The Togo Baptist Convention, with the aid of a group from Texas went and re-evangelized the area They regained the 40 churches which had been lost, but also added 50 more. Most of the pastors in training came from this area. Now our churches or individuals in our Association can help this group by sponsoring a student for $30 a month for one year. That would pay for tuition and school fees. So for every $30 monthly, you could sponsor a pastor student. Or you could give money for purchasing a Thompson Chain Bible in French for each of the graduating pastors. Or you could give a donation to a library fund could be started to help build a library for that group. There is also a request for some pastors or leaders to come teach at the school. This situation would be more of a bush type teaching setting. There is a house available, but we need to see about getting the water pump and generators repaired. To teach in this school, you must be a bit of a camper. There is no city or town nearby. You’d have to be willing to be in the middle of no where and a translator would be needed!
